Nanograin formation in dimple ridges due to local severe-plastic-deformation during ductile fracture

Abstract Nanograin materials have superior properties in mechanics, physics and chemistry. Here, we found a new phenomenon that nanograin formation spontaneously occurs the process of ductile fracture for titanium alloy, dominating mechanism is local severe-plastic-deformation (LSPD). The microstructure evolution during entire monotonic tension was revealed to further understand from plastic deformation necking, final failure, especially post uniform stage, which voids nucleate, grow coalesce. LSPD can potentially provide concept approach design produce high materials, will consume massive strain energy enable large elongation after specimen necking deformation.
